Grid Focus LLC is pleased to welcome Ken Lotterhos as a new Partner in the firm. Ken specializes in providing clients with guidance on both technical and regulatory issues related to power markets, transmission planning and electric system reliability. Ken will lead Grid Focus’ North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC) compliance service line.

Ken has over 35 years of experience with utility operations and regulatory and legal issues, as well as in-depth knowledge of the federal regulatory matters relating to energy delivery. Before joining Grid Focus, he was a former Partner at Guidehouse, Inc., and Managing Director at Navigant Consulting, Inc. Ken also served as the head of NERC Enforcement, as Associate General Counsel and Director of Enforcement. He has also worked for the Northeast Power Coordination Council (NPCC).


While at NERC, Ken led the NERC Enforcement team in the early stages of NERC’s investigation of the Southwest Blackout. He has recently assisted both regulatory and regulated entities in the area of Mandatory Reliability Standards compliance and has presented tutorials and webinars on NERC Standards compliance. He has also co-authored a guidebook on NERC Mandatory Electric Reliability Compliance published by LexisNexis – Matthew Bender. He has served as a member of the NERC Bulk Electric System (BES) Rules of Procedure Drafting Team and as a member of the sub-team developing the BES technical exception criteria.


Ken holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University (formerly Brooklyn Polytechnic University) and a J.D. degree from George Washington University Law School. He is admitted as an attorney and counselor at law to the New York State bar.
